Our Story

A cold day at Riverside Market all the way back in 2007 – we changed our menu week to week, selling a variety of pies, tarts, vegetable gratins & ‘flowerpot’ bread.

A product selection from 2009 – our Beetroot Bomb made its first appearance and we still sell 100s a week!

Back in the early days we were battling to get vegetarian food seen as mainstream amongst many customers we met at markets & events – this illustration done by a friend at the time captures our struggles nicely (if a little bit sexist for these days)…

Between 2009 and 2011 we decided to spread the word by teaching our recipes & providing people with the know-how to set up their own market stalls in their locality under The Parsnipship banner – running a part of the business as a kind of ‘collective’. Nightmare! It was so hard to keep an eye on quality that we decided to dissolve that side of things and concentrate on what we do best…

We moved into our Penllwyngwent Unit in Spring 2011 with our first employee…

Began running Cookery Schools for small groups  – Ogmore Vale 2013

Provided numerous wedding feasts…

And began attending music festivals, like the Secret Garden Party – 2015

Enjoyed several 2 week stints below the Castle at the Hay Festival of Literature and Arts

Braving the mud at Glastonbury 2016

Serving huge numbers of festival goers at Glastonbury 2016

From 2015 we started supplying independent farmshops, delis, cafés and restaurants and by 2017 we struck out on the trade show road gaining new customers and distributors.

Along the way we’ve picked up British Pie Awards, Great Taste Awards and made huge leaps our ability to supply larger companies as well as independents and now reach all parts of mainland UK either selling direct to our loyal private customers or to businesses large and small.

Our business and our products are enjoying the now rapidly growing market for vegan food which means we’re busier than ever but we continue to stand out amongst all the new  vegetarian and vegan options by sticking to our belief in the importance of producing high quality, small batch, handcrafted, products with all natural ingredients.
